Employer Description

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), or Doctors Without Borders, has been working in Nigeria since 1996, providing vital medical care in areas affected by conflict, displacement, disease outbreaks, and malnutrition.

In northeastern Nigeria, particularly in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa, MSF supports communities impacted by the Boko Haram insurgency. They operate in hard-to-reach areas like Maiduguri and Gwoza, offering emergency and trauma care, often as the only healthcare provider.

Key Areas of Work

  • Emergency & trauma care for victims of violence
  • Treatment for malnutrition, especially in children
  • Maternal and child healthcare
  • Response to outbreaks like cholera, measles, and Lassa fever
  • Mental health support for displaced and traumatized populations
  • Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in IDP camps

Challenges and Commitment

Operating in insecure and remote areas, MSF faces limited access and high risks. Yet, they remain committed to neutral, independent care, supported mainly by private donors, not governments.

Beyond medical work, MSF also advocates for the rights and dignity of the people they serve—shining a light on overlooked crises and urging action from national and international bodies. MSF continues to be a lifeline for millions in Nigeria, standing at the frontlines of care where it’s needed most.
